Is a wet standpipe right for your building?

Wet describes what is normally inside the piping. The water-supply method, pressure, outlet arrangement and system class still have to match the approved fire-protection design.

How it operates

The standpipe piping contains water. Depending on the approved arrangement, the connected water supply may automatically meet demand or may require fire-department pumping to provide the required flow and pressure.

Where it fits

Commonly considered where designated hose connections are required and the protected piping can remain water-filled. Suitability depends on the building, water supply, firefighting strategy and approved plans.
