Is a dry standpipe right for your building?

A dry standpipe is a selected system arrangement, not a shortcut around water-supply or pressure requirements. Its activation, filling and firefighting sequence must be clear and approved.

How it operates

The piping is normally not filled with water. Depending on the approved design, water may be supplied through the fire-department connection or through an automatic or semi-automatic arrangement when the system is activated.

Where it fits

Considered only for selected buildings or conditions where normally water-filled piping is not appropriate and the approved firefighting strategy accepts the required water-delivery sequence.
