No. Normal ventilation is designed for everyday air movement. Smoke control must operate to defined fire-mode objectives, sequences and performance criteria, with the required detection, controls, power and equipment coordination.
Project scope can include stair or elevator pressurization, zoned smoke control, vestibule or refuge-area pressurization, mechanical smoke exhaust, makeup air and related controls, subject to the approved design and site requirements.
A dedicated or non-dedicated arrangement may be possible when it is part of the approved design. The fans, dampers, controls, operating modes, power and normal HVAC functions must be reviewed as one coordinated system.
Testing follows the documented sequence and design criteria. It can include initiating each mode, checking fan and damper responses, confirming status signals and doors, and measuring pressure differences, airflow or exhaust performance under the required power conditions.
