Fire protection repair and upgrades

Start with the symptom, installed equipment and required outcome. DGRB assesses whether the practical next step is repair, component replacement, system alteration or a larger upgrade.

01 Define the problem before selecting the solution

A trouble signal, leak, failed device, low pressure, abnormal fan response or recurring impairment is a symptom—not a complete repair scope. DGRB reviews the affected system, available records, recent changes and previous work before recommending parts or alteration.

A change in layout, occupancy, equipment or operations may require the existing protection to be extended, reconfigured or reassessed.

  • Faults, alarms or failures that return after reset or temporary work
  • Damaged, leaking, corroded or inaccessible components
  • Unsupported or obsolete panels, devices, controls or replacement parts
  • Renovation, expansion, tenant work or operational changes affecting protection

02 Information that shortens diagnosis

Send the exact system and location, photographs of labels and affected equipment, the displayed fault or observed condition, when it started and what changed beforehand. Include drawings, prior service reports, programming records or part information when available.

Avoid repeated resets or operating unknown controls. Record the fault and report any temporary impairment or bypass to DGRB and the facility team.

03 Repair, replacement and upgrade are different scopes

Repair restores a serviceable installed component or connection within an agreed scope. Replacement exchanges a failed or unsuitable item with a compatible product. An upgrade changes capability, supportability, coverage or arrangement and may require design, programming, interface work, testing and updated records.

DGRB explains which category applies and what assumptions remain. Compatibility, capacity and performance are not inferred from appearance alone; they are checked against the system identity, approved requirements and current product information available to the project.

  • Confirmed component and system compatibility
  • Required isolation, shutdown and temporary protection arrangements
  • Programming, integration or other-trade responsibilities
  • Post-work testing, restoration and updated documentation

04 Close the work with a tested result

After corrective work, DGRB tests the affected function and records the result. Repairs that affect other systems, shutdowns or building controls may need integrated testing.

The completion record lists remaining deficiencies, inaccessible items and recommendations for follow-up.

Can DGRB quote a repair from one photograph?

A photograph can help identify the starting point, but the final repair scope may require labels, records, fault information, testing or a site assessment. DGRB will state what must be confirmed before committing to the work.

What happens when an installed component is obsolete?

DGRB checks available compatible replacement options and whether the change affects programming, interfaces, capacity, testing or records. A larger upgrade is recommended when a safe supportable replacement cannot be treated as a simple swap.

Is testing included after corrective work?

Testing of the affected work is included when stated in the accepted scope. Wider integrated testing is defined separately if other systems, controls or facility operations are involved.
