An emergency light provides illumination when normal lighting fails. An exit sign identifies an exit or the direction of travel. A building may require both, placed according to the approved egress arrangement.
The 2019 Revised IRR of RA 9514 states that emergency lighting facilities must maintain the specified illumination for at least one and a half hours. The final unit, location and installation still need to match the applicable occupancy and approved requirement.
