What makes smoke extraction work?

The exhaust fan is only one part. The smoke zone, extraction points, air path, replacement air and control sequence must work together.

Smoke collection and exhaust

Extraction points, smoke reservoirs or high-level zones, duct routes and discharge locations are coordinated with the building and approved design objective.

Replacement air path

Air entering the zone must support exhaust without pushing smoke toward escape routes, disturbing the smoke layer or creating uncontrolled pressure conditions.

Controls and interfaces

Detection inputs, fans, dampers, normal HVAC shutdowns, status monitoring, firefighter controls and normal or standby power must follow the required sequence.
