01 Start with the visible condition and exact location
Record where the issue appears: pump room, riser, floor control assembly, branch line, sprinkler, drain, test connection or another identified component. Photograph the wider arrangement and close views of gauges, valve position indicators, labels and the affected area.
Note whether water is actively escaping, pressure is changing, an alarm or supervisory condition is present, or the issue appeared after testing, shutdown, construction, weather or water-supply work. Keep people and equipment away from an unsafe leak area and notify the responsible facility team.
02 Do not operate an unknown valve to test a theory
Closing, opening or throttling the wrong valve can impair fire protection, create an alarm, cause water damage or affect connected systems. Follow the facility's approved impairment and notification procedure and use qualified personnel who can identify the valve and restoration requirements.
A pressure concern can involve supply conditions, pumps, tanks, valves, trapped air, gauges, drains, leakage, recent work or the designed operating arrangement. A single photograph or isolated reading cannot establish which cause applies.
03 Information DGRB needs for diagnosis
- Exact building, floor, riser, zone and affected component
- Gauge readings with date, time and operating condition clearly stated
- Valve labels and indicated positions without changing them for the photograph
- Pump, tank, alarm or supervisory status connected to the issue
- Recent testing, shutdown, maintenance, construction or water-supply changes
- Available drawings, prior reports and known recurring deficiencies
04 Separate immediate control from permanent repair
A facility may need an immediate approved action to control water or manage an impairment. That temporary response does not replace diagnosis and permanent corrective work. DGRB can inspect the condition, identify the affected scope and define repair, replacement, testing and restoration requirements.
After work, the affected section should be restored and tested within the agreed scope, with remaining deficiencies and limitations recorded for facility follow-up.

Questions buyers often ask
Should I close a sprinkler valve when I see a leak?
Do not operate an unknown valve without the responsible facility procedure and qualified personnel. Valve changes can impair protection or affect other zones. Notify the facility team and arrange controlled assessment.
Does a low gauge reading prove the sprinkler system is defective?
No. The gauge, location, operating condition, supply, pumps, valves, system arrangement and recent work must be considered. The reading is evidence for diagnosis, not a complete conclusion.
What photographs are most useful?
Send a wide photograph showing the component in the system, clear gauge readings, valve labels and positions, the leak or damage, and nearby alarms or supervisory indicators without changing controls.
