FDAS trouble signal checklist

A trouble light or buzzer is a symptom. Record the panel message and recent changes before resets hide useful fault information.

01 Record the panel condition before touching controls

Photograph the complete panel display, LEDs and printed or displayed message. Record the date, time, affected zone, loop, point or circuit exactly as shown. If the panel cycles through several messages, capture each one and note whether the condition is constant or intermittent.

Do not repeatedly reset, silence, disable or power-cycle an unfamiliar system merely to clear the indication. Those actions can remove useful history, create additional faults or leave protection impaired without a clear record.

02 Information that helps narrow the cause

A trouble condition can involve power, batteries, field wiring, communication, devices, ground faults, open circuits, modules, network links or programming. The panel message and site history determine where responsible diagnosis should begin.

  1. Panel manufacturer, model and available programming or operating records
  2. Exact message, zone, loop, point, circuit or device identity
  3. Recent electrical work, renovation, cleaning, water entry, device replacement or power interruption
  4. Known disabled points, disconnected devices, temporary wiring or past recurring faults
  5. Whether the building experienced an alarm, supervisory event or other system response at the same time

03 Follow the site impairment procedure

Notify the facility representative responsible for fire protection and follow the site's impairment procedure. If any area, device or notification function is disabled or unavailable, the facility must manage that condition under its approved safety and authority process.

Online instructions cannot confirm whether a reset or isolation is safe for the installed system. DGRB can review the evidence, attend the site and define the testing, repair, replacement or programming work required.

04 What to send DGRB

DGRB will use those details to decide whether an initial remote review is enough to plan the visit or whether other trades, access equipment or system records are needed first.

  2. Facility, floor and affected-area information
  3. Zone chart, point list, drawings and previous service records
  4. Timeline of the fault and any recent site work or power event
  5. Contact person, access rules and preferred diagnostic schedule

Questions buyers often ask

Should I reset an FDAS trouble signal repeatedly?

No. Record the displayed condition and notify the responsible facility representative. Repeated resets can hide useful evidence or leave an impairment unclear. Follow the site's approved procedure and arrange qualified diagnosis.

Can DGRB diagnose a trouble signal from a photograph?

A clear photograph can help plan the next step, but field testing, records, programming access or inspection may still be required before the cause and repair scope are confirmed.

What recent changes should be reported?

Report electrical work, renovation, cleaning, water entry, device replacement, cabling changes, power interruptions, lightning, panel work and any prior recurring fault around the same time.
